The Fairtrade Foundation
The Fairtrade Foundation was established in 1992. Its primary aims are twofold:
- to raise awareness of the FAIRTRADE Mark, to deepen understanding of the Mark and to increase sales of Fairtrade certified products. To this end it produces a range of promotional materials such as leaflets and posters. As well as encouraging Fairtrade Towns, Churches, Schools and Colleges and Employers, each year in March it organises Fairtrade Fortnight, when local groups across the UK link up with supermarkets, wholefood shops, churches and schools to promote fair trade and an increase in sales of Fairtrade products
- the development of Fairtrade criteria. In conjunction with its partners in FLO (see below), the Foundation works to introduce new Fairtrade products and to update the standards for existing products to ensure that the benefits to producers are maximised.
