Late-night Fairtrade stall is a great success

Fairtrade stall at the St Austell late-night shopping event

When St Austell switched on its Christmas lights this week, Fairtrade St Austell was there with lots of Fairtrade goodies to sample, all generously donated by local traders. There was chocolate, bananas, cereal bars, nuts, orange juice and even yummy chocolate cake. A selection of Fairtrade bags and T-shirts from Oxfam completed the display.

Visitors were encouraged to sign our list of people who would like St Austell to be a Fairtrade Town, and there were plenty of leaflets about fair trade for them to take home and read at their leisure.

Fairtrade promotion in new Town Guide

cover of St Austell Town Guide This summer saw the publication of the eagerly awaited new St Austell Town Guide. Clear, colourful and attractively produced, it is packed with information about the town's history, how to get here, and places of interest in the town and the surrounding area.

The directory in the back of the Guide lists everything from hairdressers to hardware, cakes to clothes, and jewellery to jigsaws, as well as a wide variety of places for food and drink. Amongst the codes for the premises listed is the Fairtrade symbol, so you can see at a glance where you can find fairly traded produce. To encourage you to try some of the local shops, bars and eateries, a selection of discount vouchers is included.

A 'concept map' of the proposed new Aylmer Square development gives an artist's impression of what is in store for this ancient market town, and the Guide is rounded off with an events listing and information about December late-night shopping.

The Guide is published by the South West of England Regional Development Agency and Restormel Borough Council, and you can pick up your free copy in many of the local shops and bars.
